What is SPSS?

SPSS is a powerful and widely used statistics program. The abbreviation stands for Statistical Packages for Social Sciences, but the program is also used in all kinds of other courses. You can use SPSS to enter, edit, store and analyse your research data - useful if you have sent out surveys for your thesis, for instance. SPSS can also create graphs for you and help you make decisions supported by the data.

In this Library Guide, we have gathered some practical information on SPSS for you, including instructional videos, books and extensive Library Guides from other universities. We also tell you who to contact if you get stuck (this support is not provided by the Hanze Library, but by other colleagues within the Hanze).

Help with installation

There are several ways to use SPSS on your computer.

Do you want to use SPSS on your own personal computer?
Then there are two options: Use SPSS through the Hanseatic Remote Desktop, or buy a discounted SPSS yearly licence through SurfSpot. You can read more about these options in this article.

Are you an employee and want to install SPSS on your computer?
Check this information.

Are you at the Hanze behind one of the Hanze computers?
Then the latest version of SPSS is already installed for you. Just make sure you save the files (dataset, syntax and output) in a place where you can easily find them again.
